Everyone needs to check out Gregg's website. I actually sent him an email and he responded promptly. It is so great to see him living his dream and the pictures helped with a visual of the show. I had asked him about a dvd (which is not yet available, but he hopes to one day have one) He is working on a screenplay for "Back to Babylon" and it was cool reading all the excellent nationwide reviews. He said that people all over the country that lived the 70's can usually relate to the characters he created from the people we all knew. He also mentioned how special it was to perform it for fellow Babylonians and that he is looking into the possibly of doing it again in the future, although it may be too late for our reunion weekend. It looks like the Boulton Center is available Friday night - does anyone know what the rental is on this venue? Any more info on doing it at the h.s.

Ok...talked to Gregg today, really easy guy to work with and although he does need a stage with a projector, screen and good sound system, the rest of his needs are quite minimal. He is not looking to make a fortune off this event, either, but must cover his overhead and perhaps a couple of hundred in his pocket wouldn't hurt. He even extended himself to theater students in the hs who would be interested in the backstage crew work, prep and production of a traveling one man show but not to see the show itself.
Anyway, I called Mrs. Repetto (BVEF) as well, left a message and will call her back tomorrow. I am very confident we can pull this thing together and even if we don't get the hs there are many other stages close to home. I am the drama director at my school and know a few people I can ask to help us if the hs doesn't work out. Next hurdle is advertising to ensure a large age appropriate audience so that all costs are covered and we take care of Gregg.

Spoke to C. Repetto and forwarded Gregg's booking info and show requirements....Mrs. Repetto is setting up a meeting with the Sup't and I volunteered to go along. Mrs. Repetto is very supportive but the concern is for insuring an age appropriate audience. I still think we can control that with selling tickets at the door, monitoring the door with a host/hostess, publicity that specifies age restrictions and the cost per ticket will need to cover Gregg's expenses as well as be a fund raiser for the school. Many of the students will be working on the homecoming parade and probably cannot afford a $20 or $25 ticket to see what life was like in Babylon in the 70's (nor will they care!) Cross your fingers!!

Thanks Maria for all you are doing - I know I appreciate it and will keep my fingers crossed that this will somehow work out.

Maria, if you need help give me a buzz. I called the Islip Pavillion (Old Islip Theater) on Friday and left a message. There is also a place in Bay Shore that does small inprov type stuff in a loft. Maybe we can sell tickets for the show thru the website like the dinner tickets

Way to go Maria! Have you told Gregg? What does he think? Let me know how I can help make this a success. I will spread the word through my brother who still lives in Babylon and any other way I can to sell tickets. Maria, I will send you an email on this...

Just a quick poll to see who is planning to stay at the Wingate on Saturday night? Although I will be staying at my brother's house in Babylon, instead of having to get Betty Lou back to Oakdale after the party, we will just stay at the Wingate - hoping others are staying there too!

Ok - I am sure everyone is tired of hearing from me, so just one quick thing. When you click on "see classmates on map" and then click on one of the bubbles, for instance, my name comes up. If you zoom in on my location, it shows me living on the edge of an airstrip! When I click on Doug Downs, it shows him living in a tractor trailer in a parking lot behind a building. I think it just centers on the town or city and I was expecting to see actual neighborhoods like when you look at Google Earth. Oh well, I thought is was kind of funny!

The picture of the committee is great but can you tell us who is who. I can pick out Keely and Mark from other pictures but I don't know who the others are. Is Arlene Sinkowitz the one with the dark hair on the far right?

REMEMBER>>> DISCOUNT FOR HOTEL ROOMS WILL NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE AFTER (9/24) SO BE ADVISED TO RESERVE SOON!

Maria Cotto (Gargano)

All the credit really goes to Keely (she knew about the BVEF) and Cristina Repetto who approached the Sup't of Schools about the idea.
I think you are right, Tina, that is Arlene and Suzy Diggle is in the back row between Mike Janis and Mark Harris...is that Stan at the end of the back row? I cannot figure out the ladies besides Keely and Arlene in the bottom row......Mike Janis is the out of town guest.....hey, is there a prize for guessing correctly?

Could the mystery person be Colleen Kelly with short hair???

09/06/08 11:44 PM #45

Alice Auer (Vanderveldt)

Hey Linda, gee thanks for the nice compliment, but no, that's not me standing in the back row, although I wish it was, because "she" looks great!! It's definitely Suzy Diggle. And what a wonderful blast-from-the-past to also see Arlene Sikowitz who is sitting there in the front row –I remember her to always be so optimistic and vivacious -- I’m sure she hasn’t changed one bit.
I too think the committee has done a great job collaborating and putting this whole thing together, and I’d like to extend a huge thank you. Also, I'm really pleased to hear that BHS is opening its doors to their Alumni and Greg’s performance. I was so sorry to have missed his show last year at the Boulton Center in Bay Shore. I hear from many who attended, that it’s a show not to be missed. Sounds like a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to it! Take care.

For all you people coming to Babylon who haven't been here for a few years, you'll see a lot of changes.....Babylon has become quite the village of restaurants. What's really nice is you can park your car, eat dinner in one of the many fabulous restaurants then see a movie followed by cocktails...all within walking distance! La Bella Palermo is a nice, moderately priced Italian restuarant tucked in between the movie theater and the Post Office. I always feel at home there and the food is delicious.

Maria - thanks for the info. I just may have to try it since southern folk have no idea what real Italian food is. There are hundreds of restaurants where I live (many only open April - Oct) but the only place that comes close is actually called "New York Pizza Pub" but they still don't have eggplant parm - I finally broke down and made it myself - damn I can cook! Same thing with lasagna - the only time I can have that is if I make it myself!! Other things I miss: Pastosa's manicotti, sauce, and meatballs; Mulberry Street's chicken francaise, real bagels and bread and REAL FRIGGIN KAISER ROLLS - there are places that make egg sandwiches on hamburger buns and call it A ROLL!!!), Devil Dogs and Yankee Doodles (not sold in the Bible Belt. Aaaggghhh!!!

Linda Mastro (Tome)

That is so true. One of the great joys of going back to New York is the food. The bread, pizza, bagels don't come close down here -- they say it's the water. But in general, there's no place like New York for good eats.

You probably don't need to know about seafood....but Cooper Street (clam bar) has the best clams on the half/shell on the south shore...I can reluctantly put together a meal and find myself cooking more when I'm not working but this working and raising kids is a time killer.
Guess who I saw? Miss Wulf is a docent at Sagtikos Manor...she hasn't changed.

10/01/08 10:26 AM #52

Barbara Froehlich (Henderson)

We've got the seafood thing down pat here, but the restaurants hate to serve raw clams (my dad had a clam boat and we used the eat them as he was digging them!) We are more known for crabs, oysters, and fish of every kind. I've always got some kind of fresh tuna, mahi-mahi, or other assorted fine fish in my fridge, and we can actually go close to home and net all the shrimp you can possibly eat and it's all FREE! Hey, I'll trade some shrimp for a kaiser roll or two!!

Hey Barbara - maybe you should work for the Bubba-Gump Shirmp Company!

10/01/08 04:21 PM #54

Barbara Froehlich (Henderson)

I'll be the Gump if you be the Bubba - I refuse to be a Bubba no matter how long I live in the south!!!

10/01/08 06:51 PM #55

Meredith Lincoln (Borruso)

I've got no problem being the Bubba here my friend.

Well...the Gregg Tome show is coming along quite nicely. Please, if you haven't planned to come, reconsider. It's all about our time in Babylon back in the 70's. If you have a business and would like to advertise your business card in the program, please contact me.
